Yuletide 2024
Oct. 15th, 2024 08:41 pmHello there, dear creator! I’m Kiraly, and I’m so thrilled to have you create something for me. I’m sure I’ll love whatever you come up with, so this letter is merely a list of suggestions to give you ideas. I hope you’ll find something to inspire you, but as long as you keep my DNWs in mind, feel free to do as you like! If you need more ideas, you can check out my previous letters here on dreamwidth (just be warned, I do a lot of recycling haha). You can also find me on Tumblr:

General Likes:
I really love character-driven stories with a lot of emotion. I’m all about the fluff, but I also enjoy angst with a happy ending. I love to see characters building friendships, working together, going on adventures, getting into (and out of) trouble. Found family and loyalty are always welcome. I love poetry and epistolary stories too, so feel free to play with the format. I also love stories that make me laugh.
For romances, I have a huge weakness for cuddling, (mild) hurt/comfort, and, uh...characters getting soaked and having to snuggle to warm up, haha. Kisses are good (awkward or sweet or steamy). I’m also totally down for things like “there was only one bed”, “fake/pretend relationship”, or other situations where the characters kind of get thrown together and then develop feelings for each other. Also very here for friends-to-lovers, especially the kind that takes years to realize. Mutual pining is great, though I prefer it to end happily.
Although my prompts are mainly focused on canon-setting stories, I adore modern AUs, so if you want to put the characters in college or a coffee shop or an office or whatever, I will probably be delighted and charmed. I’ve also been really into “alternate universe: modern with magic” stories recently, so it would be fun to see something like that.
Dislikes (Do Not Want):
Major character death. Maiming or graphic violence beyond what is canon-typical (references to canon events are okay, just don’t make them the focus, please). Abusive relationships as the primary focus of the story, or described in detail. Terminal illness. Sexual violence of any kind. Explicit sex (allusions to sex or implied sex are fine). Dementia or permanent memory loss. Tragic endings.
Now, on to the prompts!
The Goblin Emperor Series
Characters Requested: Thara Celehar, Iäna Pel-Thenhior
I love these two so much - their interactions in canon both leave me giddy with delight and longing for more. It’s nice to see how Iäna seems genuinely delighted to help Thara with his work, and how Thara is starting to see Iäna as someone he can go to for help. Both of them have expertise with different areas and it’s fun to see them work together.
I understand why their relationship is progressing so slowly and delicately in canon, but my little shippy heart would love to see a story where Thara is able to admit his feelings (both to himself and to Iäna) and for them to be able to act on those feelings. It doesn’t have to be anything big and flashy - I love the bits and pieces we’ve gotten so far, of companionable dinners and evenings at the opera and some light breaking-and-entering for dessert. ;) So more of that, but with the space to actually blossom into something, would be great. I think there are great opportunities for other kinds of tender moments between them too, with more privacy. Cuddling? Falling asleep on each other? Iäna comforting Thara after a nightmare? Thara learning to help Iäna with his braids? Any and all domestic fluffy nonsense will delight me.
In general I am desperate for Thara to get a hug and have someone take care of him - and to realize that there are so many people who WANT to take care of him - and this does not have to just be a romantic thing with Iäna! Feel free to bring in side characters too, there are so many people who care about this poor traumatized man.
Regarding the loss of Thara’s powers at the end of Grief, I’m fine with however you want to handle that. You can do a canon-divergent story where that doesn’t happen, or a story where he’s coping with the loss of them and figuring out how to move on, or a story where he’s trying to cope with their loss but maybe they’re not as gone as he thought? I think there are a lot of possibilities to be explored, but by no means do you have to go down this road if you’d rather write something with a different focus.
In Other Lands
Characters Requested: Elliot Schafer, Golden-Hair-Scented-Like-Summer, Luke Sunborn, Serene-Heart-in-the-Chaos-of-Battle
(Note: I have read both Wings in the Morning and Tears Waiting To Be Diamonds, so feel free to include elements from those stories! Since the specific fandom mentioned here is just the main book and I can’t be sure everyone has read the bonus material, my prompts will not include spoilers for those).
I love how this book is so focused on the friendship between Elliot and Serene and Luke, and how that’s really the core of the story even as romances come and go (and eventually solidify). So a story about their friendship over the years would be delightful, if you don’t want to focus on one of the romantic relationships. Seeing how Golden gets integrated into the group post-canon would also be great.
But! If you do want to write a romantic story, please do! I have a strong preference for the canon ships as they stand at the end of the story (so, Elliot/Luke and Serene/Golden) but I don’t mind references to the past relationship between Elliot/Serene.
Elliot/Luke:
I love the way the relationship between Luke and Elliot develops throughout the story - there are so many times when they misunderstand each other and hurt each other’s feelings, but at the end of the day they always have each other’s backs (even if they won’t admit to being friends) and stand by each other. I would love seeing canon events from Luke’s perspective too: the school play, the three days when Elliot doesn’t come back to school, or other moments we don’t get to see.
Of course, I’d also love to see something about their adventures post-canon. Do they end up being posted by the mermaids? What new treaties will Elliot negotiate, what new dangers can he accidentally get in the way of that Luke will have to save him from? What awkward social situations will Elliot have to save Luke from? I’m also 100% here for any story that gets into how much Elliot likes Luke’s wings (best blanket in the Borderlands - if Luke thinks he’s ever going to escape being Elliot’s personal space heater, whatever that is, he’s wrong). I think the contrast between how Elliot sees Luke’s half-harpy heritage (so awesome, totally hot) to how Luke sees it (uncomfortable, if not downright monstrous) would make for an interesting story as Luke loves to learn this new part of himself.
Serene/Golden:
Their relationship has SUCH a rocky start, and we really only get small pieces of it developing. I think it would be so fun to see more of the letters they exchange, and see how Serene’s attitude changes over time. Something from Golden’s perspective would be so great - what are his ambitions, and how do they conflict with Serene’s assumptions about him? What changes his mind about her? And anything about his decision to disguise himself and join the army at the end of the book would be so fun.
Post-canon, the two of them have caused a bit of a scandal in elf society…how does that shake out? Does it put a strain on their relationship, or do they grow closer as a result?
The Queen’s Thief
Characters requested: Attolia | Irene, Eugenides, Costis Ormentiedes, Kamet
It’s this fandom’s last year of Yuletide eligibility so I’m mostly over here like *gestures at all of them.* If you don’t want to focus on a romantic pairing, I think any combination of these folks would be fun to read a story about - you do not have to include all of them! I love deleted scenes, scenes from canon told from an alternate POV, or anything where we get to see more of the characters interacting. I also love AUs, so feel free to play around with those if you like.
For romantic pairings, I would love to see Gen/Irene or Costis/Kamet. (Other canon pairs are fine in the background!) Again, I love seeing expansion on what we see in canon, and AUs are also so fun. Seeing how characters in a different setting or situation (no matter how silly!) retain the core elements of their canon selves is always so interesting to me.
For Gen and Irene, I love seeing their relationship grow from like, the worst possible start into something strong enough to withstand anything that comes at them. And there’s so much we don’t actually see on the page! It would be fun to see some of those hidden moments, or alternate versions of the parts we do see.
For Kamet and Costis, I love their camaraderie and the way their story ties so closely with the Immakuk and Ennikar myths. They also have unseen moments I would love to see fleshed out (the Taymets! The shepherd’s hut!) but it would also be cool to see some of their canon adventures reimagined as a myth told years later.
Tiger, Tiger
Characters Requested: Jamis Arlesi, Remy Bonnaire
These two make me go feral in the best way. If romance is not your jam, stories about their adventures on the Gallant would be so great! Fill in the gaps between their first meeting and the point we reach in canon where Jamis is the trusted first mate and Remy his confident captain. Show me little moments in their friendship, the ways they rely on each other to run the ship and crew successfully.
If romance is your jam, oh my god the PINING on these two! Obviously Jamis is still not (at the time of this letter being posted) fully consciously aware that’s what he’s doing, but he’s clearly working his way up to realizing Something, thanks to our good friend Arno. Meanwhile, Remy has been having a full-on gay crisis this entire time, and recent events are not making it any easier. Any of their previous adventures seen from that angle (“oh gods why am I so gone for this dumbass”) would be so fun, and I’d also love to see a take on the two of them finally figuring out their shit. An alternate version of the “there was only one bed” scenario where they actually share would be fun, or a future scene where some similar opportunity arises.
Feel free to include background characters to help the plot along as you see fit. :)
I think that’s everything - again, thank you so much for writing for me!
