Hamiathes' Gift Exchange Letter

I’m sure I’ll love whatever you come up with, so this letter is merely a list of suggestions to give you ideas. I hope you’ll find something to inspire you, but as long as you keep my DNWs in mind, feel free to do as you like! If you need more ideas, you can check out my previous letters (though I haven’t ever done an exchange for this fandom before, so they might not be super helpful, haha). General Likes:
Cute, fluffy stuff. It probably isn’t possible to write something too sweet, so feel free to pour the sugar on! I don’t mind a bit of angst, but it has to have a happy ending. For gen fics, I love to see characters building friendships, working together, going on adventures, getting into (and out of) trouble. Anything with characters out in nature is pretty great too. For shippy fics, I have a huge weakness for cuddling, (mild) hurt/comfort, and, uh...characters getting soaked and having to snuggle to warm up, haha. Kisses are good (awkward or sweet or steamy). I’m also totally down for situations where the characters kind of get thrown together and then develop feelings for each other, and subtle expressions of romantic interest (since so many of these characters are pretty reserved when it comes to fond feelings).
For art, I really enjoy a wide variety of styles, from sketches to watercolors to digital pieces. I love bright, saturated colors if you decide to work in color, but I also love greyscale and black and white. I think most of my fic prompts will work for art too, but if you don’t see anything you like, feel free to do your own thing. :)
Dislikes (Do Not Want):
Character death or maiming beyond what happens in canon (and really, mentions of that are okay but try to avoid making that the most important part of the fic/art). Violence beyond what is canon-typical. Abusive relationships (which, again, there are some in canon, just try to avoid focusing on them.) Sexual violence of any kind. Explicit sex (allusions to sex or situations that get kind of steamy are okay, just...keep it teen rated or lower, please). It’s also probably best to avoid AUs (unless otherwise specified) or unrequested crossovers.
Please do not include romantic pairings other than the ones I’ve requested, with the exception of background canon relationships.
Now, on to the prompts!
Attolia/Eugenides:
I know this ship gets all the canon love, but one can never have too much of a favorite ship, right? Right. Anyway, I’d love to see deleted scenes from any of the books (especially post QoA) or little moments alone when they can just relax and unwind from the stress of court life. Bonus points for anything involving the secret passage between their bedrooms, or Irene’s private reactions to Eugenides’ stunts with the court.
Costis/Aristogiton and Costis & Aristogiton:
Okay, so I requested these two as either a romantic or platonic pair, because I like both interpretations. The impression we get from Costis in KoA is that he and Aris are “good friends”, but Costis also seems like the kind of narrator who would be circumspect about any romantic attachments. So I’d love to see something that explores their relationship, whichever way you choose to interpret it.
From a friendship perspective, how did they become friends in the first place? It’d be neat so see something from when they first joined the guard, how the two of them navigate their new duties and their fellow guardsmen. I’d also love to see a scene like the ones we get in canon, where the two of them just sort of hang out when they’re off-duty.
On the romantic side, I would love to see something about that “three day hunting trip” they were supposed to go on. Every time I read that I think “secret romantic getaway? Probably with hunting too because they seem like guys who would enjoy hunting as a date?” Obviously they don’t get to go on the one that was scheduled in canon, but another one from the past or in the future would be cool. Or just stolen moments alone together between duties, relaxing in the barracks and maybe getting up to a bit more than just drinking.
In either case, I also think it’d be cool to see something from Aris’s perspective, maybe his thoughts on what happened with Costis during KoH or his adventures afterwards. One note, while I do also love Costis/Kamet, I’d rather not have anything involving Costis cheating (it’d be so out of character!) or one-sided pining on the part of Aris. So if you choose to create something that overlaps with TaT, either downplay the connection between Costis and Kamet or use it as a way for mutual feelings to be revealed.
Costis & Eugenides the God:
So I fully subscribe to the “Costis becomes the new Thief of Eddis” theory (a few Tumblr posts involving that are here, here and here.) I think it makes sense that Costis doesn’t really realize he’s become the Thief, too, for reasons mentioned in that last post, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he started having encounters with the god of thieves. The thing that really ties it all together for me - the night on the battlements, the fact that Costis is the one sent to steal Kamet away - is the moment in TaT when Costis falls into the well and does not die. Like, Kamet is so certain he must be dead, you can’t go falling into wells and survive, and yet...Costis does. So honestly my main idea for this scenario is Costis having an encounter with the god Eugenides while he’s stuck in the well waiting for Kamet to come rescue him. Maybe it causes Costis to realize he’s the Thief, maybe he brushes it aside as the product of his subsequent illness, but either way I think it would make for a cool story or art piece.
Costis/Kamet:
Yet another ship whose canon interactions fill me with delight! I love the slow build of their relationship in canon, all the ways they gradually learn to trust each other and every time Kamet thinks of running off and instead chooses to stay. I would actually love to see a story that takes the scenario I mentioned in the previous prompt (Costis vs the well, with divine intervention) and includes Kamet in the equation where Costis figures out he’s the new Thief of Eddis/Attolia. Or anything post-canon, honestly, with the two of them going off together and starting their new lives asspies researchers. I love the thought of these two opening up to each other more, finding a rhythm of life and learning more about how they complement each other.
Eddis & Attolia:
These two ladies are both so great, each ruling their kingdoms the best they can and being generally badass. I enjoy seeing the contrast between them in canon, and so it would be cool to see them interact more. Maybe an epistolary story where they exchange news and advice about ruling, or their complicated feelings towards each other after everything that happens in QoA. Plus, they both love Eugenides in their own ways, so I can totally see them share a look of exasperation whenever he does something particularly over the top. On an art-related note, it’d be cool to see something set up to show each queen in her respective palace, set up to show how their lives differ but are ultimately similar in duty.
Ina & Eurydice:
I mostly requested these two because I’d love to see more stories about the women in this world, and these two seem pretty cool. It can’t have been easy to survive the attack on the villa and all the other events that befall them in aCoK, but everything we learn about them makes it sound like they rose to the task. It would be interesting to see a story about those events from their perspective, or maybe their take on Sophos becoming king and having Eddis as their sister-in-law. (And not just those events, but the cultural implications of Sounis uniting with Eddis and both of them swearing to Attolia - I imagine there’d be a lot of upheaval, and these two would be in a position to see it.)
